Christian Lass in the 1910 Census

Christian Lass appears as Head of Household in the 1910 US Census living in Santa Clara Township near Santa Clara Street. He is 66 years old. Under the column for occupation is the phrase “Own Income.”  He is living with his 60 year old wife Julia, his 35 year old son, Fred N. (who is listed as a “Laborer on Farm”), his 34 year old daughter-in-law Julia, his 11 year old granddaughter Caroline, his 10 year old granddaughter Julia, and his 8 year old granddaughter Johanna. Bertha Knauth is in the household too but her last name is misspelled as Knout and her relationship to Christian Lass is listed as servant.

Captain C.S. Lass Dead

Captain Christian S. Lass, for a number of years a resident of this valley, and formerly very prominent in shipping circles, passed away as his home, 1889 Market Street in Santa Clara yesterday.  Captain Lass was 76 years of age and was the widower of the late Julia Lass.  He leaves two sons, Fred N. and Henry Lass, and three grandchildren, Mrs. Thomas Bull, Jr., Johanna, and Christian Lass.  Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o’clock Wednesday afternoon from the late residence in Santa Clara.
